Vacuum casting is a manual manufacturing method that utilizes prototypes processed by CNC, SLA, or other methods to create silicone molds quickly and inexpensively. Liquid PU is poured into these molds under vacuum conditions to produce transparent parts that closely replicate the prototype.
Vacuum casting is perfect for producing transparent parts for a variety of applications, including automotive transparent lampshades, battery boxes, and more. It is particularly cost-effective for small batch production runs and allows for quick turnaround times.
YYI Tech recently completed a project for an automotive transparent lampshade prototype. The customer needed 80 pieces and, considering the high cost of other production methods, we recommended vacuum casting. The process involved creating a prototype, making a silicone mold, and then using that mold for batch replication. Due to the limited number of replications possible per silicone mold (around 20), we made a total of 4 silicone molds to fulfill the order.
